Salem junior Bri Berberet had a coming out party Friday at Ann Arbor Huron, but it was the River Rats who made the most noise...but just barely.

Berberet torched the nets for 21 points - 12 the result of four triples - but Huron prevailed, 53-49.

The River Rats improved to 2-1 while the Rocks slipped to 1-2.

"Bri shot the ball really well tonight," said Salem coach Fred Thomann. "She hit two threes in the first quarter and two in the third, so she was consistent.

"I thought the entire team gave a great effort tonight. We tied it up at 47-47 late in the game, but it got away from us the last minute and a half."

Salem led 12-10 after one quarter and 23-20 at the half.

Huron outscored the Rocks 17-10 in the third quarter.

Heidi Schmidt added eight points while Breanne Beaver contributed seven points and five rebounds.

Katie Heitmeyer had a solid rebounding night, ripping down 10 boards.

The River Rats went to the free-throw line 14 times in the fourth quarter alone, swishing eight.

Salem finished 13 of 19 from the stripe.

The Rocks host Dearborn Divine Child on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
