It takes most high school point guards
four or five games to pull down the number of rebounds Plymouth
Christian Academy's No. 1 guard Brianna Harris pulled down in one game
last week -- 16.
But Harris isn't like most point guards. Blessed with the
ability
to distribute, score, rebound and defend, she makes life difficult from
the opening jump to the final whistle for the Eagles' opponents.
Harris took a few moments to sit down and answer a few questions
from PlymouthCantonSports.com's Ed Wright following a practice last
week.
ED
WRIGHT: How long have you been playing basketball?
BRIANNA HARRIS: I started playing when I was about 5 at the
Salvation Army in Dearborn.
EW: What do you like best about the sport?
BH: I'm an aggressive person, so I like the
aggressiveness of the sport.
EW: What do you like about
playing point guard?
BH: I like
the chance to control the offense. I don't worry about myself scoring;
I just want to help out my teammates.
EW: How
would you describe your game to people who have never seen you play?
BH: I'm
aggressive and I try to be a tough defensive player. I like to think I
have good handles. I'm pretty good with the ball and would rather make
a good pass than shoot.
EW: What do you like about
playing in Division 4?
BH: The competition is really good and the
games are usually pretty close. I like going to a smaller school.
EW: What do you like about this
year's team?
BH:
I think we're a little tougher than before. It's a fast team with a lot
of good ball-handlers. We have a lot of transfers, freshmen and girls
off the JV team, so it may take us a while to get going. But I think
we'll be pretty good.
EW: Do you ever get in a
shooting zone when it feels like every shot is going to go in?
BH: During
last year's District tournament, I started shooting really well. I was
making shots right at the top of the key. That's my favorite spot on
the court.
EW: Is there a college or pro
player you emulate or like watching?
BH: My
favorite player is Diana Taurasi. I know she has a bad attitude
sometimes, but other than that I like how she plays."
EW: Were you sad to see the
Shock leave Detroit?
BH: Yes.
I really liked Deanna Nolan. I went to a few games. I'm going to miss
watching them.
