  "A lot of things had to go perfectly for us to win," said Canton senior captain Donnie Watkins, who wrestled his final home match Wednesday. "They're a good team, but if some of our kids would have wrestled as hard as they could -- as hard as they did in the practice room -- we could beat them. It would be close, but it's possible.

  "This team had a lot of success. We didn't win the Regional, but we had four or five individual District champions, and the most Canton's ever had before this year was three, so overall, it was a very good team. It just stinks that we're not going to Battle Creek."

  Both CC and Canton rolled through their Regional semifinal opponents. Canton won 73-6 over Dearborn Fordson as the only points they relinquished were the result of a void at heavyweight.

  The Shamrocks, on the other hand, blanked Livonia Franklin, 78-0, as nine of the 14 matches ended with falls.

  "I thought we had a very good season, even a little better than we thought we were going to have before it started," concluded Mancuso. "We won 29 dual meets, the most in school history and we have nine Regional qualifiers.

  "A bunch of good seniors are leaving us, but we have a bunch of good young kids coming back. We'll be back next year and, hopefully, we can get to Battle Creek."
