Canton's boys track-and-field team conquers Wayne Memorial, 113-24

  Sparked by a strong showing in the field events and season-best efforts from Ben Spreitzer, Kevin Buford and Mike Edge, Canton's boys track-and-field team handed host Wayne Memorial a 113-24 setback Tuesday afternoon.

  With the win, the Chiefs improved to 2-1 in the KLAA South Division while Wayne slipped to 0-3.

  Nick Alaniva posted two field-event victories, taking the long jump with a leap of 19 feet, 5 inches and the pole vault in 12 feet, 9 inches.

  Spreitzer won the high jump with a 5-8 effort while turning in a season-best time of 16.1 seconds in the 110-meter high hurdles.

  Buford maintained his place among the area's best sprinters by leading a Chief sweep in the 100 with a time of 11.2. The sophomore speedster also took the 400 in 52.7 and the 200 in 23.1.

  Edge wasn't far behind Buford in the 200, placing second with a season-best time of 23.5.
