Talk about saving your best
for last.
Canton's softball team entered the seventh inning of Monday's
KLAA Kensington Conference cross-over game against Novi in a 2-0 hole.
A few moments and five clutch hits later, the Chiefs walked off
the Legacy Field diamond with an exhilarating 3-2 victory.
The win boosted Canton's record to 3-0 heading into Wednesday's
home double-header against Westland John Glenn.
Heidi Lucke ignited the seventh-inning rally against Novi
pitcher Rebecca Richter with a single. Amy Dunleavy and Samantha
Partain followed with singles to load the bases.
Kaitlyn Mattson then roped the Chiefs' fourth consecutive
single, plating Lucke and Dunleavy with the tying runs.
After CarolAnn Sexauer walked, Lauren
Leskovitz ended the dramatic contest with an RBI single that scored
Partain with the game-winning run.
Dunleavy was nearly unhittable on the mound for Canton, limiting
the Wildcats to two hits and no earned runs. The senior flame-thrower
struck out seven and walked two.
The Wildcats capitalized on three Canton errors.
