A pair of quick-strike, first-period goals ignited Canton's
hockey team to a 4-2 victory over host South Lyon Monday night.
The victory improved the Chiefs' overall record to 4-7-1.
Josh Dickson and Alec Gilo netted the early power-play goals to
stake Canton to a 2-0 advantage. Dickson was assisted by Sean Murphy
and Jimmy LaFontaine while Gilo received helpers form Kyle Korte and
Phil Baciak.
Following a scoreless second period, Murphy ripped a shot into
the back of the net off assists from Dickson and Garrett Bryden to
extend Canton's lead to 3-0.
A series of penalties that left the Chiefs short-handed for a
seven-minute stretch of the third period led to two goals from South
Lyon, which cut Canton's lead to 3-2.
However, Jordan Smith iced the win with an empty-net goal.
Spencer Craig was solid in net for the winners, stopping 34
shots.
"I was very
happy with how the boys fought through adversity with some calls at the
end," said Canton coach Jeremy Majszak. "They battled to the buzzer.
"Senior Rohn Gaudi and junior Taylor Baker had outstanding
games. Everyone played well. It was a good start to the next string of
games."
