Canton's No. 9-ranked soccer team extended its unbeaten streak
to nine Thursday night by walloping visiting John Glenn, 5-0.
The Chiefs improved to 12-2-2 overall and 6-1-1 in the KLAA
South Division. The Chiefs sit atop the standings ahead of close
pursuers Plymouth and Livonia Churchill.
Seniors Brandon Laabs and Garren Carr split the shutout.
The Chiefs held a precarious 1-0 advantage at the half thanks to
a slick goal by senior Sean Balnaves, who settled a thread-the-needle
pass from senior Phil Baciak.
Canton got the offensive ball rolling four minutes into the
second half when Dan Ovesea deposited a nice cross from Bobby Budlong
into the back of the net to make it 2-zip.
Twelve minutes later, Budlong assisted Tyler Winningham, who
beat the Glenn keeper with a well-placed shot into the upper-right
corner of the net.
The Chiefs finished off the Rockets with goals from Ovesea (from
Winningham) and Budlong, who ripped a direct kick into the mesh.
