Canton's girls and boys bowling teams split matches with Brighton

  Canton's boys bowling team opened the 2009-10 season Monday afternoon with a thrilling 16-14 victory over visiting Brighton.

  The match was bowled at Super Bowl Lanes in Canton.

 The Chiefs' girls ended up on the wrong ed of a 16-14 score to the Bulldogs.

  The boys and girls varsity teams, and a boys JV team , bowled two Baker games and two-team games against one another.

  For the girls varsity match, Canton lost the first Baker game by a score of 116 to Brighton's 134, but the Chiefs girls game back with a solid 153 game against Brighton's 124.

 Highlights for the girls in the team games event included freshman Charlotte Zimmer with a 150 and 169 games, senior Lauren O'Bradovich with a 142 and 168 contribution, and steady junior Ashley Cade with 153 and 156 games.

  For the boys match, Canton lost the opening Baker game, 152-143, but then evened the match with a nice 212 to Brighton 140. In the team event, Canton was paced by junior Ross Terrasi with a 191, and fellow junior Andrew Klein with 187.

  In the second team game, Canton senior Casey Bindas threw a game-high 198 and Terrasi contributed a 190 game.

Canton's JV boys team performed very well, beating Brighton in the first Baker game, 178-143. Brighton rebounded to the second Baker game with a score of 175 to Canton's 162. Scores leading the way for Canton included a fine 199 by sophomore Kurt Kowalski, a 188 by junior Justin Newton and a 172 thrown by senior Billy Keppen. Overall, Canton won by a score of 23.5 to Brighton 6.5.

  Canton also fielded a mixed girls and boys team, and highlights from that match included a 232 game from Canton High sophomore Andrew Green, and a nice 166 game from junior Jackie Polaski.

  Canton's next match will be Sunday, Dec. 13, at Walled Lake Central's home house, Wonderland Lanes.
