Canton's offensive firepower overpowered Livonia Franklin
Tuesday night, 9-1, extending the Chiefs' unbeaten mark to 10 games.
Canton is now 13-2-2 overall and 7-1-1 in the KLAA South
Division. The Chiefs can clinch the division title with a victory at
Churchill on Thursday.
Seniors Brandon Laabs and Garren Carr excelled between the pipes
for Canton as each played a half.
The winners' goal scoring was well distributed among six players.
Shean Krolicki got the ball rolling in the game's second minute
when he accepted a pass from Dan Ovesea and chipped it over the keeper
to make it 1-0.
Eleven minutes later, Ovesea ripped home a header off a free
kick from Bobby Budlong to double the Chiefs' lead.
Budlong added to the Patriots' misery in the game's 28th minute
when he took a through ball from Bryan Ren and beat the Pats' keeper to
cap the first-half scoring.
After an Ovesea net-finder made it 4-0 early in the second half,
Phil Baciak struck in bang-bang fashion, scoring a pair of consecutive
goals on assists from Krolicki and Ovesea.
The hosts scored to cut their deficit to 6-1, but Garrett
Derian-Toth (from Scott Piwowar) countered five minutes later to
help the Chiefs regain a six-goal lead.
Piwowar then put the game away for scoring two goals, both of
which were assisted by Ren.
Piwowar's second goal at the 19-minute mark ended the game due
to the MHSAA's eight-goal mercy rule.
