Canton's girls golf team ran its record to 3-0 Wednesday when it
upended Livonia Franklin, 203-219, at Hilltop Golf Course.
The Patriots slipped to 1-2.
Freshman Kelsey McDougall continued to sparkle for the Chiefs,
firing a round of 47. Paige Osler (50), Chloe Luyet (52) and Mary
Elizabeth Winther (54) also scored for the Chiefs. Ariel Alber and
Katie Adams carded 59's for Canton.
Franklin was paced by Lexi Smith and Mariah Barcus, both of whom
fired 53's. Haley Szpara recorded a 55 and Mackenzie Meyers tallied a
58.
"It was chilly, breezy and overcast, but the girls played well
despite the elements," said Canton coach Tom Alles. "Kelsey McDougall
was the match medalist for the second time this season and she is
continuing to gain confidence with each match.
"Paige Osler has shown consistency with a 50 average. Freshman
Chloe Luyet shot well in her first varsity competition. Chloe doesn't
hit the ball all that far, but she scores with her accuracy and she has
a good short game. Mary Elizabeth Winther has been a solid contributor,
too."
The Chiefs will be tested in their next two matches at Livonia
Churchill and at Plymouth.
"Both schools have excellent teams," Alles said. "They're both
capable of shooting team scores in the 180 range."
