Canton gymnasts' phenomenal season continues at Regional

  Canton's gymnastics team continued to raise the bar on a sensational season at Saturday's MHSAA Division 1 Regional meet held at Plymouth High School.

  Fueled by the stellar all-around efforts of Robyn Piwowar, Ayana Lewis and Alex Fideler, the Chiefs compiled a first-place point total of 144.725 to easily outdistance runner-up Northville (140.825) and third-place Livonia Blue (140.00). Saline earned fourth with 139.775 points.

  It was only the second time in school history that Canton has placed first in the Regional and won the conference crown.

  Piwowar continued her amazing season by placing second in the Division 1 all-around with a score of 36.675. The talented junior placed second in the vault (9.35) and floor exercise (9.575); third on the balance beam (9.35) and ninth on the uneven bars (8.4).

  Fideler was sixth in the Division 1 all-around competition, earning 35.975 points thanks to a first-place, personal-best effort of 9.45 on the bars, a fifth on beam (9.0) and eighth-place showings on both the vault (8.55) and the floor (8.975).

  Lewis outperformed all Division two gymnasts, placing first with 35.675 points. The sensational sophomore won the vault (8.9) and the bars competition (9.3) while placing eighth on the beam (8.825).

  Mallory Hudak also shined in the Division 2 all-around, placing sixth after winning the beam (9.25), finishing second on the floor (9.325) and placing fourth on the vault (8.8).

  Also placing for the Chiefs were Kali Pierce (fifth on the floor with a 9.05 and 10th on the vault with an 8.65); Brooke Granowicz (fifth on the beam with a personal-best 9.05) and Marina Milad, who placed 10th on the bars with an 8.3.
