For the most part, Canton's
lacrosse team is young and largely inexperienced.
But the portion of the roster that is experienced and savvy will
make the Chiefs anything but a push-over this spring.
The experienced core of returners is led by its trio of
top-notch captains: seniors Ryan Dunleavy, Sean Walsh and Jake
Underwood.
"We're very young with a lot of sophomores and juniors," said
Canton coach Kevin Riley. "But we have some returning guys who can
really play, including two returning All-Staters in Jake Underwood and
Matt Rodgers. Jake has a 90-miles-per-hour shot, so he can really bring
it."
"Sean Walsh is very solid in goal and Ryan Dunleavy is one of
our best defensemen."
Riley also spoke highly of senior mid-fielder Riley
Hoernschemeyer, a three-sport standout; junior Jordan Smith, who was
won of Canton's top-scoring hockey players this past winter; and
sophomore Brandon Schlieger, a dependable defender.
In addition to the three captains and Hoernschemeyer, the
Chiefs' small senior class includes defenders Sean Murphy and Alec
Gilo; and mid-fielder Jon Rocheleau.
Led by Smith and Rodgers, the junior class is deep with
mid-fielders Parker Pakula, Ben Popp and Chris White; and attack Trevor
Moore and Connor Dean.
Mid-fielder Lucas Carpenter is the only other sophomore besides
Schlieger, while four freshmen cracked the varsity roster: Timmy Popp,
Christian Munch, Craig Allard and Dillon Schlampp.
