Sept. 9, 2010, 9:45 p.m.

Canton's soccer team left little doubt as to which team had the superior talent in Thursday's KLAA South Division game at Wayne Memorial.

The Chiefs scored early and often in their 8-0 triumph over the hosts Zebras. The game was called six minutes into the second half due to the MHSAA's eight-goal mercy rule.

Canton, which improved to 5-2-1 overall and 1-1 in the KLAA South, scored first less than a minute into the game when Tyler Winningham crossed a ball into the box that Mitch Posuniak deposited into the back of the net.

The Chiefs managed to post six more first-half goals from Connor Furgason (from Posuniak), Bobby Budlong (from Phil Baciak), Winningham (from Sean Balnaves), Griffin Parks (from Winningham), Furgason (from Winningham) and Bryan Ren (from Neil Zech).

The game ended when Winningham set up Shean Krolicki with the eighth net-finder.

Senior goal-keeper Garren Carr earned the shutout.

Canton returns to action Saturday at 6:30 against Salem.
