Canton's girls cross country team got off to a promising start to its 2010 season Aug. 28 when the Chiefs placed fourth with 106 points.

"Overall, the team ran well, especially considering the hard training the girls have been running with no real rest up to this point," said Canton head coach Eric Pahl. "The girls' competition was tough, as the scores indicate, but the girls competed hard and finished really well.

"I always feel that these early meets are a learning experience and now we need to take what we learned and apply it to the coming meets."

The meet was won by Saline, which finished with 54 points. Ann Arbor Pioneer placed second with 89 followed by Northville, which compiled 103 points.

Bedford (112) and Livonia Franklin (118) rounded out the top six spots.

Senior captain Bianca Kubicki paced the Chiefs with a sixth-place finish in 20:13. Emily Southern was close behind, placing 11th in 20:34.

Also running strong for the Chiefs were Rachel Rohrbach (18th in 21:00), Anna Gorzalski (31st in 21:45), Abigail Gorzalski (40th in 22:16), Katie Grimes (57th in 23:08) and Andrea Rapson (73rd in 24:59).
