Robyn Piwowar leads Chiefs to season-opening win over Vassar

  The Canton gymnastics team got off to a stellar start to its 2009-10 season Saturday by outdistancing Vassar, 136.675 to 103.525.

  The Chiefs were paced by captain Robyn Piwowar, who compiled an all-around score of 35.275. Piwowar registered marks of 8.4 on the vault, 8.35 on the bars, 9.5 on the beam and 9.025 on the floor exercise.

  Also performing well for the Chiefs was Alex Fideler, whose all-around mark of 34.4 was second only to Piwowar Fideler's best event was the beam, on which she earned a solid 9.0. Her other scores were 8.5 on vault and bars; and 8.4 on the floor exercise.

  The Chiefs two other all-arounders were Ayana Lewis (33.05) and Marina Milad, who racked up a 31.75.

  Among the other highlights for the winners were 9.1's on the beam by Mallory Hudak and Kali Pierce.
