Canton Cardinals travel baseball tryouts scheduled for August

  The GCYBSA Canton Cardinals' travel baseball tryouts for teams from 9U to 14U will be held on four dates in August.

  The GCYBSA's travel format is designed to attract the players who seek a more-competitive and serious baseball experience than recreation baseball offers. Players must be willing to commit to weekend-tournament play, league play outside the community, and to play 30 to 50 games per season (April through July).

  Playing travel is considerably more expensive and it demands players to be committed to the team. Multi-sport players should seriously consider this before committing to a travel team.

  The 2011 Canton Cardinals travel baseball teams will conducting tryout sessions on the following dates (the tentative location for all tryout sessions is Heritage Park):

Sunday, Aug. 8

* 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m - 14U and eighth grade-only team
* 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. - 9U
* 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. - 10U
* 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. - 11U
* 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. - 12U
* 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. - 13U

Tuesday, Aug. 17

* 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. - 13U

Wednesday, Aug. 18

* 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. - 14U and eighth grade-only team

Sunday, Aug. 22

* 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. - 12U
* 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. - 11U
* 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. - 10U
* 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. - 9 U

  Players should register at:

so they can be contacted for changes, weather, etc. Arrive 20 minutes prior to the tryout time to sign a waiver form and to warm up.

  Players are encouraged to attend both tryout sessions per age group, but must attend at least one session to be considered for the team. The age group is determined by the player's age on April 30, 2011.

  Under certain circumstances, a maximum of two non-resident players will be allowed on the 11U through 14U travel teams. Every effort will be made to place residents and GCYBSA participants that are skilled to play travel baseball before selecting non-resident players. The 9U and 10U teams will consist of all resident players.

  Residents are defined as living in Plymouth, Canton or attending a school in Plymouth or Canton.
