Multi-talented Chiefs signed, sealed and (almost) delivered

Nov. 12, 2010, 10:45 p.m.

Pick a sport -- any sport -- and there's a good chance a member of Canton's girls basketball team will be earning a college scholarship in it next fall.

Five Chiefs, who advanced to the Class A semifinals this past spring, have earned athletic scholarships to Division 1 or 2 colleges. Four of them signed letters of intent on Wednesday, the first day such letters could be signed.

The four signees were Sara Schmitt, who will play hockey at Ohio State University; Kari Schmitt, who will also play hockey at OSU; CarolAnn Sexauer, who will play collegiate softball at Central Michigan University; and Kayla Bridges, who will play college basketball at Wayne State University.

The fifth Chief scholarship recipient is Melanie Pickert, who has committed to play soccer for the University of Iowa. She will sign her letter of intent in February.
