Canton's baseball team, which
is ranked No. 5 in the latest Michigan High School Coaches Association
Division 1 poll, lived up to its ranking Wednesday when the Chiefs
swept Livonia Franklin in a KLAA South double-header, 8-3 and 5-1.
The Chiefs improved to 15-3.
Ben Staley upped his mound record to 2-0 in the opener, limiting
the Patriots to four hits while striking out seven.
Andrew Tidwell was the star at the plate for Canton, going
3-for-3 with three RBI. Joe Galanty also had a big night, contributing
a triple and two RBI.
Steven Wells had an RBI triple for Franklin.
Canton overcame a 3-1 deficit with five runs in the third before
adding single runs in the fifth and sixth.
The Chiefs were flawless in the field while Franklin committed a
pair of errors.
Tidwell was stellar on the mound in the nightcap, improving to
5-0 by limiting the Patriots to three hits. He struck out 10 in a
complete-game effort.
Offensively, the Chiefs were paced by Seth Tschetter (2-for-3,
two doubles) and Garrett Bryden, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI.
