Michael Weiss, Jr. comes from
a family of wrestlers, but although his father and cousins wrestled,
that is not what prompted Mike to try the sport.
As a fifth-grader with lots of pent-up anger and frustration,
Mike turned to the Trojan Wrestling Club as a release mechanism. After
only a couple months of wrestling, Mike stopped because of a move to
Lapeer.
Weiss has now moved back to the Clarenceville School District to
begin his freshman year and decided to join the wrestling team for
totally different reasons: to have fun and enjoy the comaraderier of
his teammates. He has set two goals for himself this year: to win the
Livonia City Meet and to become a regional qualifier. On Dec. 9, Mike
met his first goal by pinning his opponent from Franklin, then winning
a major decision in the championship match over the Churchill wrestler.
As for future plans, Mike wants to constantly improve as a
wrestler and go to college to become a nurse. He thinks it would be
wonderful if he could improve enough to win a scholarship to help fund
his education.
