Dante Fox knew football was
for him not long after he joined the Detroit Police Athletic League
Vikings as a seventh-grader four years ago.
Currently a junior-to-be at Plymouth, the 5-foot-10, 195-pound
Fox has made consistent strides each year he's strapped on the pads,
leading to a break-out 2009 campaign when he emerged as one of the
Wildcats' top running threats on offense and a big-time hitter on
defense.
His skills really shone through in Plymouth's 31-8 victory over
Livonia Franklin when he rushed for 130 yards on just nine carries
while intercepting a pair of Patriot passes.
Fox spent a few moments between Wednesday's two-a-day practices
to speak with PlymouthCantonSports.com's Ed Wright.
ED WRIGHT: Have you always been
a running back?
DANTE
FOX: No, my first year playing in the PAL I started at
offensive guard.
EW: Were you pretty big for your
age?
DF: No.
Actually I only weighed about 160, so I was a small guard, but I was
pretty fast and I could block.
EW: Did you like playing guard?
DF:
At the time, I was just happy to be starting. It was fun, but I always
admired the running backs and receivers.
EW: What to you like most about
football?
DF:
For some people, it's just about playing. To me, it's kind of serious
because I want to go to the next level. I look at it kind of like a
career, but at the same time it's something that gets my mind off
everything else.
EW: Is there a play you've made
at Plymouth that stands out?
DF:
Against Franklin last year I had an 80-yard touchdown run. It was my
first start at running back and it came toward the end of the game. It
wasn't a real close game, but the run kind of closed the door on them
coming back.
EW: What do you like about this
year's team?
DF: We're
fast and smart. We're able to learn more stuff due to how quick our
brains react to what the coaches are teaching us.
EW: What do you like best about
the team's wide-open offense?
DF:
I like the versatility it brings. We can run and pass.
EW: Who's your favorite NFL
player?
DF: Adrian
Peterson.
EW: What's your best 40
(yard-dash) time?
DF:
4.6 (secohds)
EW: How do you work on getting
faster?
DF:
I work with Jake Sweeney, who's a speed trainer. He works with me
one-on-one, which helps.
EW: What's your favorite class?
DF:
I like math because it really gets my brain going.
EW: What do you prefer playing:
offense or defense?
DF: I
like them both.
