Falcusan's skills reflected in final 'Greatest PCEP Female Athlete' results

Jordan Falcusan hasn't competed in a high school athletic event in almost six years, but the former Salem multi-sport star's feats have not been forgotten by the local sports community.

Falcusan earned the title of "Greatest PCEP Female Athlete - 2000-09" last week when she earned close to 6,000 votes in a PlymouthCantonSports.com poll.

Currently a professional clothier working for the Tom James Company in Chicago, Falcusan defeated former Canton swimming great and Olympic bronze medal winner Allison Schmitt; and former Plymouth three-sport standout Janet Hanchett in the finals.

After graduating from Salem in 2004, Falcusan played

four productive years of collegiate soccer -- two years each at highly ranked programs Texas A&M and Tennessee.

During her incredible four years as a Rock, Falcusan earned 13 varsity letters in five different sports.

I'll never forget the scorching hot summer mid-week morning in 2004 when I went over to the PCEP track to jog a few slowly paced laps and I saw two girls enduring some pretty intense, self-motivated soccer drills on the field.

I didn't know at the time that the two girls were Falcusan and her former high school and collegiate teammate Marissa Sarkisian, but I knew their skills and their dedication to the sport were better than good because most teenagers their age were still home sleeping.

I received a ton of positive e-mails in support of all three finalists. One of Schmitt's former youth soccer coaches said she was the hardest worker he's ever coach and that she could have been in a star in that sport, too, if not for her dedication to swimming.

The bottom line is that Falcusan, Schmitt and Hanchett are all incredible role models for young athletes out there who aspire to excel not only in the athletic arena, but in life.

Thanks to everyone who participated in the unscientific poll that ran on the website throughout January and early February. The number of votes the survey generated -- over 50,000 -- proves how passionate the residents of this area are about their high school sports.

And stay tuned for the second annual "Greatest PCEP Athletes of the Decade," which is scheduled to run on PlymouthCantonSports.com in January of 2020.
