Head Coach Al Beyar returns for his 26th season at Farmington High School.  Assisting him will be David Hall (2nd year) and Josh Gaskill (1st year).  They will have a veteran squad this season and will try to improve upon a team that placed tenth at Observerland and had three regional qualifiers and one state qualifier.

The Falcons lose four starters from last year’s squad to graduation, David Yar mouth (135), Dave Gambill (160), C. J. Hicks (160), and state qualifier Dylan Wells (285). Two other starters have decided not to participate in their senior year, regional qualifier Anthony Porto (119) and Steve Cook (171).  A football injury has sidelined the only returning heavyweight, senior Caleb Schonschack.

 Interest in wrestling at
Farmington remains very high, and the Falcons start the season with 42 wrestlers.  “I am really satisfied with the number of kids on the team and the competition in the room” states Coach Beyar.  Leading the way is returning regional qualifier Nick Tomski, who will be at 145/152 this year.  Strong lower weights will be led by Nimantha Herath (39-9 at 103) and Kevin Kennerly (30-11 at 112).  Kienuwa Davis (17-10) and Justin Roe (26-20) also had solid years last year.

Wrestle-offs will not be held until right before the season starts, so Coach Beyar could not provide a projected line-up.  Below is my guess at what the Falcon line-up may look like:

103 – Jackson Tomski (Fr) or Trent Wolter (Fr)

112 – Nimantha Herath (Jr)

119 – Kevin Kennerly (Sr)

125 – Manny Govantes (So)

130 – Kienuwa Davis (Jr)

135 – Zach Shulz (Sr)

140 – Mike Rankin (Jr)

145 – Wesley Kuutila (So)

152 – Nick Tomski (Sr)

160 – Derek Southerland (Sr)

171 – Ryan Southerland (So)

189 – P.J. Hicks (Jr)

215 – Justin Roe (Sr)

285 – Caleb Schonschack (Sr), if healthy

As for team goals, “We want to win our league championship, and then go from there” says Coach Beyar.  The Farmington City Championship is always a goal, but that will be determined during the course of wrestling dual meets with OAA White rivals Harrison and
North Farmington.
