Inaugural Plymouth-Canton Force basketball camp is a slam dunk

Aug. 25, 2010, 3:05 p.m.

Football season is just around the corner, but basketball was the name of the game as far as the eye could see at High Velocity Sports Wednesday morning.

All four basketball courts in the massive indoor facility were jam-packed with young players participating in the inaugural Plymouth-Canton Force basketball camp, a four-day offering that was engineered by several local high school coaches and players.

Among the local high school coaches who instructed campers were Plymouth High School head coach Mike Soukup, Westland John Glenn head coach Dan Young and Salem assistant coach Ryan Nimmerguth.

Players from Plymouth, Canton and Salem high schools also offered advice.

The camp drew 85 young players, each of whom received a reversible jersey and participation certificate for the cost-effective registration fee of $50.

The Plymouth-Canton Force is a two-year-old travel basketball organization that offers high-level young players an opportunity to match their skills against the best players from throughout Michigan.

The Force will be holding tryouts for all of its age-group teams on Sept. 12. For more information, visit the organization's website at www.plymouthcantonforce.com.
