I gave PlymouthCantonSports.com my best shot.
I worked 10 times harder than I had worked at any previous
endeavor.
I attended every local sporting event humanly possible, took
thousands of photos and wrote millions of words in an effort to provide
fans with a comprehensive daily update of the local sports scene.
And the number of visitors and number of hits the site

attracted
--
several
thousand each day -- reflected my effort.
Unfortunately, the advertising revenue the site generated didn't
come close to matching the other numbers.
For some reason, local business owners (with a few exceptions)
were not willing to part with a couple hundred dollars for three months
of every-day-on-the-website exposure on a website that over 100,000
different people (almost all local) have visited in the past 16 months.
So even though my shot had good rotation and appeared bound for
the bottom of the net, it has rimmed out.
And that makes me sad because I loved doing this.
But there comes a point when you realize that investing 40-plus
hours a week into something that gives you back next to nothing is not
a good investment.
Thank you very much to the business owners who did believe in
the site (I will refund any money I owe you within the next month) and
to all the administrators, coaches, athletes, booster-club presidents
and fans who made this site a short-term success.
Beginning Wednesday, I will use my free hours to look for a job.
I have faith that everything will work out.
Happy holidays to you and your family.
(NOTE: The
site will still be online through May 30 for people to check out
archived stories.)
