Canton was without the services of its heavyweight, but voiding that weight didn’t hurt the Chiefs at all.  In the first duel of the evening, Canton defeated Northville 52-18.  The most exciting match of that duel featured Keith Zech against state-ranked Nick Mudar at 171.  Zech scored a quick takedown and led until Mudar got a third-period escape and a takedown with 9 seconds left to earn a 3-2 decision.

The final duel of the evening pitted the Chiefs against Howell, a 64-9 winner over Walled Lake Central.  Canton started out strong, with first-period pins by Brent Winekoff, Keith Zech, and Ben Poirer, and a technical fall by Anthony Abro.

Howell bounced back with the void and three straight wins at 103, 112, and 119.  Howell’s talented freshman Chad Czerneski tried to make it five straight wins for the Highlanders with a quick 5-point move, but Waleed Faraj recovered and dominated the rest of the way to win the match.
Canton won four of the last five matches to secure a comfortable 42-23 victory.

Northville bounced back in their night cap by defeating Walled Lake Central 48-24.
