Abro, who has lost just two matches all season, was solid all day, winning a pair of six-point matches and recording a fall before ousting CC's Miles Trealout, 7-3, in the 189 championship match.

Two Salem wrestlers advanced: 125-pound senior Devin Stratton, who improved to 36-13 with a third-place showing; and 135-pounder James Middleditch, who took third at 135 in just his third full week of wrestling.

"Both Devin and James are coming on at the right time of the season," said Salem coach Greg Woochuk. "They're both picking it up at the right time. James is coming off a broken foot he suffered in football -- this is just his third full week of wrestling -- so he's just getting into the shape that everybody else is in.

"I expected Devin to get out of here. He's been here before and he knows what it takes. They both did a nice job."

Two Rocks -- 215-pound Blake Abbey and 160-pound Colin Gross -- saw their high school careers end in the "blood" round, the matches that decide who advances to the final four and who doesn't.

"Colin is the hardest-working kid in our room," said Woochuk. "He's been a great leader."

Although Plymouth advanced just one wrestler -- 285-pounder Wally Eppler -- the Wildcats' program experienced significant progress this season under second-year coach Quinn Guernsey.

"Overall, our guys did pretty good," said Guernsey. "We had seven guys make it to the blood round, which was up from three last year. The fact that only one made it through was a bit of a downer, but six of the seven are underclassmen, so we're looking for big things from them next year.

"Wally is peaking at the right time of year. He's gotten a lot better the past two weeks. He was third last week at the KLAA and runner-up today. His Regional is probably the toughest in the state, so there are going to be a lot of very good wrestlers going home. We're going to work all week to make sure he's not one of them."
