Salem's junior varsity football team pulled off an incredible
comeback Thursday night, rallying from a 20-6 deficit to win, 32-26.
The host Mustangs led 14-0 until Salem quarterback Jacob Deprez
scored on a keeper to cut the Rocks' deficit to 14-6.
The two teams then traded touchdowns before halftime -- Cameron
scored on a TD pass from Deprez and Michael McNamara ran in the
two-point conversion for Salem's points -- leaving the score at 20-14.
The Mustangs padded the lead, 26-14, early in the third before
the Rocks stormed back with a game-winning surge.
McNamara brought Salem to within 26-20 when he barrelled over
from the 1 -- seconds after his 9-yard carry put the Rocks on the
doorstep.
Fueled by strong defensive efforts from defensive players Kyle
Cameron, Danny Stropes, Jeremy Lewis and Cain Smith, the Rocks tied the
game at 26-26 in the fourth quarter on a Deprez quarterback sneak. The
score was set up by long receptions from captain Jordan Ciciotti and
Andrew Kelty.
The Rocks' winning drive was set up when Kelty forced a fumble
that was recovered by Ciciotti.
Deprez scored the game-winner from 1 yard out with 1:14 to play.
Northville drove to the Rocks' 5 in the waning seconds, but nice plays
by Cameron, Lewis, Ciciotti, Ivan Rhodes and Raymond Fisher preserved
the victory.
