
The Plymouth-Canton Educational Park was well-represented at the
finish line of Thursday's KLAA Kensington Conference girls cross
country meet.
Canton senior Bianca Kubicki held off a strong charge from Salem
freshman Kayla Kavulich to place first in the talent-stocked
competition.
Kubicki covered the 5K course in 18:25.8, two-tenths of a second
ahead of Kavulich.
Livonia Franklin's Megan McPherson was third in 18:29.4.
Churchill's Kerigan Riley (18:41.9) and Novi's Kerri McMahan (18:41.9)
rounded out the top five.
Northville (49 points) outkicked Salem (66) to win the
conference championship. Novi (87) was third, followed by Livonia
Churchill (104) and Livonia Franklin (116).
Canton finished sixth with 149 points, one spot ahead of
seventh-place Plymouth (176).
Rounding out the final standings were Livonia Stevenson (193),
South Lyon (199), South Lyon East (323) and John Glenn (348). Wayne did
not have enough runners to qualify for a score.
Led by Kavulich, the Rocks placed five runners in the top 22.
Senior standout Victoria Tripp placed 12th in 19:20.3, just ahead of
teammate Adrianna Beltran, who was 13th in 19:24.4.
Also scoring for Salem were Shannon Flynn (17th in 19:37.0) and
Alejandra Beltran (22nd in 19:52.2).
In addition to Kubicki, Canton received points from Rachel
Rohrbach (25th in 20:06.4), Jessica Siegler (38th in 20:21.7), Anna
Gorzalski (46th in 20:34.6) and Katie Grimes (48th in 20:35.7).
Plymouth was led by strong efforts from Nicole Traitses and
Brianna Lax, who finished 16th and 21st, respectively. Traitses was
clocked in 19:34.8 while Lax finished in 19:48.3.
Also scoring for the Wildcats were Britta Swanson (40th in
20:25.4), Sophie Roberts (41st in 20:27.1) and Julie Hahn, who placed
58th in 21:12.8.
