Despite being seriously
short-handed Saturday, Lutheran Westland's wrestling team placed fifth
at the 16-team Bishop Foley Invitational.
Wrestling with just nine grapplers, the Warriors amassed 122.5
points, led by Laith Francis's Lower Weights MVP performance at 125
pounds.
Justin Palka (130) and Craig Kowalsky (189) also took first in
their respective weight classes.
Also earning points for coach Joe Schmidt's squad were Sean Rowe
(second at 140), Matt Sankey (fifth at 145) and Adam Seta (sixth at
103).
"I was pleased because it was a complete team effort," said
Schmidt. "We only entered nine kids and eight scored points. The ironic
thing is that the kid I was most pleased with, Nolan Edwards at 135,
went two and out."
