Dietrich Lever, one of the most exciting guards to ever execute a finger roll for Canton's basketball program, will be taking his considerable skills north beginning next year.

On Wednesday, Lever signed a letter of intent to play for Ferris State University beginning with the 2011-12 season.

Lever, a 5-foot-10 guard who can deflate defenders with extraordinary quickness and perimeter shooting skills, was also recruited by Columbia University in New York, Albion University and the University of Richmond.

"I just decided Tuesday," said Lever, who earned first-team All-KLAA honors as a junior. "I sat down and talked about it with my parents. We weighed the pros and cons, and I made my decision.

"It will be nice to play my senior season with no pressure as far as trying to impress coaches. When I took a tour of the campus, I loved everything about it."

Lever, who carries a 3.27 grade-point average, will pursue a career in sport management at Ferris.

When asked what part of his game has improved the most since last season, Lever noted his three-point shooting.

"I'm shooting the ball, not pushing it now," he said. "My shot feels way better than it did last year."
