The Canton
Lions' freshmen squad avenged an early-season loss to Brighton by
thumping the Bulldogs, 19-0, Sunday to move on to the semifinal round
of the playoffs. The defense was stellar all day, receiving
contributions from the entire team. Defensive standouts included Noah
Brown, Joey Glunt, Myles Beverly, Brad Tyszkiewicz, Devin Farmer,
Spencer Brown, Evan Voyles, Rubin Williams and Cody Tapp.
Offensively, the Lions controlled the line of scrimmage and the
game clock. Offensive-line standouts were Ethan Balogh, David Mason,
Julius Crouch, Trevor LaPere and Alan Farmer, who opened big holes for
Victor Abraham and Jason Arnold. Abraham scored the two first-half
touchdowns (35 and 60 yards) while Arnold chipped in with a 30-yard
scoring run to put the game away in the third quarter.
The Lions' next game is Saturday at 11 a.m. at Ypsilanti Lincoln
High School against the Lake Area Hawks.
JV LIONS EDGE
STEELERS
The Lions defeated the Plymouth-Canton Steelers, 14-6, for the
second time in two weeks. The Lions jumped out to a 14-0 lead behind
the legs of Charlie Turfe and Daniel Kilgore. Back at quarterback was
Robert Guajardo, leaving Allante Wheeler to deliver some bone-jarring
blocks.
The defense delivered several big plays, but none bigger than
DaMarcus Kaigler's crushing hit that made a Steeler receiver drop a
sure touchdown pass. Kilgore added an interception while Jacob Stropes,
Jakob Wickens, Jackson Austin, Isaac Jackson, Everett Czartnota and the
man called "Big Ski" helped the Lions control the game.
The Lions' next opponent Sunday at the PCEP varsity stadium is
Ypsilanti. Kick-off is set for 2 p.m.
