The
Patriots
are enjoying a very nice start to the 2010-2011 wrestling season. They beat some ranked teams on Saturday, were
ranked #8 in Division 1 by MichiganGrappler.com Wednesday morning, and
have
convincingly won their sixth consecutive Livonia City Meet this evening
at Livonia
Stevenson
High
School.
Franklin
won nine of 14 weight classes and scored 253.5 team points, both
team records.
Champions were: Gabe Martinez (125 pounds), Jordan
Atienza
(130), Steve Tuyo (135), Jordan McGuire (140), Josh Hatfield (145),
Avery
Opperman (152), Allen Steele (160), Alex O’Connor (171), and Matt Roos
(189).
Churchill
did well in the lower weights, with champions Jon Locklear (103), Josh
Perez
(112), and Jacob Meadows (119). The
fourth Charger champion was Dillon Morantis (215).
Churchill finished second with 151 team
points.
The host Spartans are in a rebuilding year and had
to void
five weight classes. Still, they had one
champion, heavyweight Jake
Range,
and finished third.
Clarenceville brought a larger team than in past
years and
only voided one weight. However, they
had a tough opening round and only advanced two wrestlers to the finals. Even though they had no champions and
finished fourth, the Trojans amassed more team points than they did
last year.
TEAM SCORES: 1. Franklin,
253.5 points; 2. Churchill, 151; 3. Stevenson, 116.5;
Clarenceville, 103.5.
