Marge Verduce, the only athletic department secretary in the history of Salem High School, passed away Sunday following a valiant battle with cancer.

Verduce, who was 71 years old, served under a long line of Salem athletic directors, including John Sandman, Paul Cummings, Brian Wolcott and Tom Willette.

"Marge absolutely loved her job," said PCEP co-athletic director Sue Heinzman, who has worked with Verduce since 1993. "She'd be in her office every morning at 6:30 a.m. and she wouldn't leave until her job was done. We're really going to miss her."

Verduce continued to work while receiving treatment for cancer.

"She was even in a couple of days in July," Heinzman said.

Verduce is survived by two daughters and one son.

Services for Verduce, who was 71 years old, will be held Friday, Aug. 6, at 11 a.m. (doors open at 10 a.m.) at Northrop-Sassman Funeral Home, which is located at 19091 Northville Rd. (at 7 Mile) in Northville.

A luncheon will follow at 12:30 p.m. at Highland Lakes Clubhouse, 20301 Silver Springs Dr. (between 7 and 8 Mile) in Northville.

Cards of sympathy can be sent to:
