A strong effort in the middle by Salem's soccer team couldn't
prevent a 3-1 loss to Northville Thursday night on the Mustangs' home
field.
"I thought a number of players played well, especially our
central mid-fielders," said Salem coach Ed McCarthy. "Dan Martin had a
great game as did Chris Ensor and Brandon Barfuss.
"Overall, I thought the game was pretty equal, but Northville
was able to capitalize on their chances and we couldn't."
The loss dropped the Rocks to 4-4-3 overall and 2-2 in the KLAA
South Division. The Mustangs improved to 3-0-1 in the division.
Northville's 1-0 halftime lead disappeared a short time into the
second half when Martin found the net off a corner.
"The goal was a great individual effort on the part of Dan, who
got well above the defenders to get to the ball," said McCarthy.
However, the hosts countered with a pair of goals to earn the
victory.
Erick Beas took the loss in net for Salem, which is idle until
Tuesday night.
