Chris Scagnetti's goal mid-way through the second half earned
Plymouth Christian Academy a 2-1 victory over visiting Summit Academy
Tuesday afternoon.
The victory improved the Eagles' record to 5-1-1.
Scagnetti's game-winner came from six yards out.
"Both teams had some great scoring opportunities after Chris's
goal, but neither team could score," said PCA coach Larry Machonga.
The Eagles seized a 1-0 lead in the game's 12th minute when Dan
Ross found the back of the net from 15 yards out.
Six minutes later, Summit notched the equalizer on a PCA own
goal.
Ross nearly ripped his second goal of the half into the net with
18:30 left, but Summit's keeper hugged the well-struck ball on the door
step.
PCA's next-best threat of the half came at the 13:30 mark when
Daniel Mullett made a stellar run down the right flank, drawing two
defenders to him. He then fed the ball to a streaking Adam Powlus,
whose bullet shot sailed just high of the cross bar.
PCA keeper Jayme Putney preserved the halftime tie for his team
when he elevated high to deflect a shot out of harm's way with 11:40
remaining in the half.
The Eagles return to action this weekend when they compete in
the University Liggett Tournament.
