Compared to the brutally
tough MIAC Red Division schedule it endured during the regular season,
the post-season has been a walk in the park so far for the Plymouth
Christian Academy girls basketball team.
More accurately, it has been a fast-break in the park.
The Eagles advanced to Thursday's Class D Regional final Tuesday
night with a 57-34 rout of an over-matched Camden Frontier contingent.
PCA (10-11) never was threatened after jumping out to a 17-6
first-quarter lead and 39-13 halftime advantage.
"It feels really good; I'm happy for the girls," said PCA coach
Carol Gerulis. "Last year we got knocked out in this game, so one of
our goals before the season was to get to the Regional final. The girls
are playing great."
The Eagles will take on Adrian Lenawee Christian in Thursday's 7
p.m. Regional final at Wyandotte Mt. Carmel High School. PCA defeated
the Cougars by four points earlier this season.
The Eagles were paced by freshman guard Karen Windle, who poured
in 20 points while grabbing five rebounds. Windle also nabbed four
steals.
"Karen played really well," said Gerulis. "She kept attacking
the basket and she hit a couple of threes. She's been playing well
defensively, too."
Kristin Malcolm also shined for the winners, netting 17 points,
15 rebounds and two steals.
Morgan Warfield netted 25 points for Camden Frontier.
"We put Jenna Abraham on Warfield to start the game and she did
a really nice job," said Gerulis. "When she got tired, we put
Karen Windle on her, and when she got tired, we put Breanna Harris on
her. (Warfield) scored most of her points in the second half when the
game was pretty much over."
The Eagles hit 4 of 8 free throws.
