Plymouth Christian Academy soccer team pushes Oakland to the limit

The Plymouth Christian Academy boys soccer team gave No. 2-ranked Oakland Christian all it could handle Friday afternoon before eventually succumbing to the Lancers, 3-2, in overtime.

The loss dropped the Eagles to 3-5-1 overall and 1-5-1 in the Michigan Independent Athletic Conference Blue Division.

PCA struck first15 minutes into the contest when freshman Dan Ross settled a slick pass by Jordan Machonga and dribbled past a Lancer defender before firing a low shot off the left post and into the back of the net.

Oakland, which is the defending Division 4 state champion, grabbed a 2-1 advantage with a goal before the half and another from All-State mid-fielder Caleb Stanko, who ripped a shot from the top of the box that eluded PCA keeper Jordan Allen.

Undaunted, the Eagles fought back to knot the game at 2-all when sophomore Chris Scagnetti cleaned up a loose ball and zipped it into the left corner of the net.

Five minutes into overtime, Stanko lived up to his billing when he deftly chipped a direct kick over the Eagles' wall of defenders and an Oakland forward headed it in for the game-winner.
