Senior defenseman's overtime goal lifts
Penguins over Country Day, 6-5
Dec. 3, 2009, 2:30 p.m.
Senior
defenseman Jordyn Moore's goal with 49 seconds left in overtime
propelled the Plymouth-Canton-Salem Penguins to a thrilling 6-5 victory
over visiting Detroit Country Day Tuesday night at the Arctic Edge
Arena in Canton.
Moore's goal, which was assisted by Sarah Coleman, helped offset
a furious Country Day rally that resulted in five third-period goals.
PCS led 1-0 after one period on Shauna Siebert's lamp-lighter
from Kara Bongiovanni and Moore.
The winners led 2-0 after two periods thanks to Moore's goal
from Coleman and Tory Campbell.
The Yellow Jackets reduced their deficit to 2-1 53 seconds into
the third frame when Maddie VanAntwerp scored from Jasmine Samani and
Becky Dyer.
Country Day then knotted the contest at 2-2 on Christine Jiang's
unassisted marker with 13:11 to play in regulation.
The Jackets' onslaught continued 16 seconds later when Lizzy
Bayoff's goal gave the visitors a 3-2 advantage.
The Penguins didn't trail for long -- 50 seconds to be exact --
as Siebert's tallied the equalizer from Bongiovanni and Coleman.
The game's fast-and-furious pace continued 61 seconds later when
Country Day's Bayoff scored again to make it 4-3.
PCS deadlocked the contest again at 4-4 with 10:49 left on
Siebert's second goal in less than 90 seconds.
Dyer gave Country Day a short-lived 5-4 edge at the 8:29 mark,
but Siebert struck again (from Moore and Campbell) with 5:15 on the
clock to set up the extra period.
Cortny McAdoo earned the victory in net for the Penguins. Kelsey
Thomas suffered the loss for the Yellow Jackets.
