Salem's Jake Peterson has
parlayed an outstanding senior season on the hardwood into an
opportunity to play collegiate basketball at an preeminent NAIA program.
Beginning in the fall, the 6-foot-7 Peterson will take his
enhanced post skills to Spring Arbor College, which has been a regular
attendee the past several years at the National Association of
Intercollegiate Athletics' National Tournament under head coach Ryan
Cottingham.
Peterson had a break-out year for the Rocks this past winter,
averaging 15 points, 8 rebounds and 1.5 blocked shots per game.
He earned team MVP honors as well as first-team Kensington
Conference, Detroit Free Press All-West 3rd Team and Free Press
Honorable Mention All-State accolades.
"Obviously, we're thrilled with Jake's size and the way he moves
for a big guy," said Cottingham. "He has a lot of upside. He's going to
have to work hard and put in his time, but we think he has the
potential to develop into an impact players.
"Jake's a great young man who will be a excellent representative
for our program."
Peterson said he was sold on Spring Arbor the first time he set
foot on campus earlier this year.
"I loved everything about it," he said. "I like the size of the
school and everybody I've met has been very nice. I like what they
offer academically as well as for basketball."
Peterson said he will pursue a degree in business.
