The final
seven minutes of Tuesday night's Canton-Plymouth soccer match were
crazy.
Crazy-good for the Wildcats.
Plymouth's momentum-building surge through the mid-section of
its schedule continued with a 3-1 victory over the Chiefs as three of
the game's four goals were scored with under 16 minutes to play.
The win upped the Wildcats' record to 7-4-1 while the Chiefs
slipped to 6-4-2.
Plymouth struck first a few minutes into the contest when Joe
Klonowski headed a perfect corner kick from Vin Nguyen into the back of
the net to stake the 'Cats to a 1-0 advantage.
The ultimate game-winning blow was delivered by the right foot
of Plymouth's Danny Jasewicz, who scorched a direct kick from 28 yards
out past the outstretched arms of Canton goal-keeper Kai Walther to
make it 2-0 with 6:49 to play.
"I was aiming for the far post," Jasewicz said, "But I got it
with the outside of my foot and the ball was wet so it had a lot of
spin on it. It didn't go exactly where I had planned, but it ended up
good."
The Chiefs cut their deficit in half just over three minutes
later when, after a Chief was fouled in the box, Bobby Budlong ripped a
penalty kick past Plymouth goalie Kyle Brindza to make it 2-1.
Just when it appeared the Chiefs had re-secured the momentum,
Plymouth iced the game 40 seconds later when Nick Russ made a
scintillating move through the 18-yard box and deftly pushed the ball
past Walther to make it 3-1.
"We hung in there and won a lot of the 50/50 balls," said
Plymouth coach Jeff Neschich. "The guys played good, smart soccer.
"I thought Dan Jasewicz and Steve Jahn played well and Nick Russ
did a good job up top for us."
