The Plymouth
wrestling team split a pair of dual matches at Wednesday's Quad meet at
Dexter.
The Wildcats dropped their opener, 48-20, to Belleville before
bouncing back to upend Chelsea, 50-18.
"We looked sharp for the beginning of the year," said Plymouth
coach Quinn Guernsey. "Our lineup still needs quite a bit of tweaking,
but it was definitely a good start to the year. Tomorrow we'll go back
to work and hope to keep improving.
"Most of the guys wrestled hard and pushed the tempo of their
match, so we're pretty proud of that. Belleville has a very solid team
and we definitely had our chances against them. We'll keep plugging
away and hopefully get some more wins this weekend."
The Wildcats will be competing in the Columbia Central
Invitational on Saturday.
Among the standouts for the Wildcats were Alec Breckenridge, who
pinned both his foes -- Belleville's Josh Watson in 0:57 and Chelsea's
Taylor Cooley in 5:05. Senior Robbie Barackman also won both his
matches handily, earning major-decision points for Belleville's Cameron
McCoy, 21-8; while ousting Matt Lindauer, 14-7.
Other double winners were 103-pound Shadi Jammoul, who pinned
Belleville's Chris O'Keefe in 1:01, and won by void against Chelsea;
and Said Youssef, who won by major decision over Ivy Riley (20-7) at
119 against Belleville before outpointing Chelsea's Avery Osentoski,
