The Plymouth hockey team improved to 6-0 Saturday night with a
convincing 4-1 victory over host Lake Orion in a game played at the
Dettroit Skate Club.
Plymouth started the scoring with a power-play goal from Evan
Swieczkowski (from Pat Smiatacz and Justin Bauer).
Four minutes later, Ryan Renault scored his fifth goal of the
year from Smiatacz and Taylor Currier.
Lake Orion outshot Plymouth, 10-9, in the first period.
In the second stanza, Lake Orion came out strong and tied the
game with a power-play goal.
"It was a soft goal in a sense that it bounced off a few players
catching goalie Mike Justus off guard," said Plymouth coach Paul
Fassbender.
Less than two minutes later, Plymouth scored on the power-play
with Smiatacz finding the net from Ryan Bauer and Ryan Renault. Lake
Orion outshot Plymouth in the third period 11-9.
"I thought this was a very good game as we were able to play
everyone," said Fassbender. "The shots that Lake Orion did get were
perimeter shots. We blocked quite a few shots tonight.
"We need to become a better defensive hockey team. There are
teams that have a lot more firepower and we need to be able to shut
people down. Especially in our own end."
