The temperature was unusually
warm, the wind was amazingly strong and Plymouth's girls tennis team
was incredibly sharp Thursday afternoon on the PCEP courts.
Sparked by a 4-1 advantage in doubles matches, the Wildcats
outstroked Canton, 6-3, to even up their record at 1-1.
The Chiefs also finished the day with a 1-1 mark.
The two teams split the four singles matches. Canton won at No.
1 thanks to Megan Leung's convincing 6-2, 6-1 triumph over Sarah
Mitchell; and in the No. 4 match when Sydney Liedel ousted Kirthi
Duraiswamy, 6-1, 6-0.
Plymouth's singles success came from No. 2 Priya Joshi, who
swept Taylor Eppler, 6-3, 6-4; and from No. 3 player Lindsay
Stemberger, who edged Jacklyn Hollingsworth, 7-6(8), 6-3.
The Wildcats ruled the day on the doubles courts, taking four of
the five matches.
After Canton won the No. 1 match thanks to a strong performance
from Brittany Vance and Kayla Davis, who were 7-6(4), 6-4 winners over
Allison Santori and Andrea Haidar, Plymouth swept the final four
encounters.
No. 2 tandem Kayla Griffey and Britta Swanson nipped Janani
Shanmuga and Kelsey Mason in one of the day's most exciting match,
6-7(8), 6-3, 6-2; No. 3 duo Annie McKenzie and Iulia Fratila defeated
Catherine Sanctorum and Kaitlyn Bunyak, 2-6, 6-4, 6-3; No. 4 pairing
Jahnvi Patel and Mariah Tesarz hung on to beat Samantha Klott and
Hayley Cook, 6-3, 4-6, 6-0; and the No. 5 team of Laura Schmid and Erin
McKenzie swept Neena Baghaie and Lauren Tomei, 7-6(3), 6-2.
