Plymouth junior pitcher Harrison Michels had state-ranked Novi's
number Monday afternoon.
And for 5.2 innings, that number was zero.
Michels was brilliant in Plymouth's 6-3 victory, no-hitting the
host Wildcats for close to six innings before finally yielding a hit.
"Harrison was dazzling today," said Plymouth coach Bryan Boyd,
whose team improved to 6-6 heading into Wednesday's double-header at
Canton. "This is a big win for us. Novi is state-ranked (No. 7 in
Division 1) and a perennial powerhouse. I'm really proud of our kids."
Michels gave up just two hits and three runs in six innings on
the mound. He whiffed nine Wildcats.
Jackson Burdette earned a save by pitching a scoreless ninth,
striking out a pair of Novi batters.
Burdette was assisted by an outstanding play by Plymouth center
fielder Mike Nadratowski, who raced into left center field in the
bottom of the seventh to track down a long fly ball that saved at least
two runs.
Ben Wohl also made a huge defensive play when he took a bad hop
off his chest and recovered in time to nail the Novi runner at first.
At the plate, sophomore Rich Gulielmi continued to produce,
ripping a pair of doubles and a single.
"Rich would have hit three home runs today if not for the wind,"
Boyd asserted.
Wohl and Phil Emminger scored a pair of runs each and Guglielmi
knocked in three. Emminger had two hits.
