Not even the unforgiving hills of Cass Benton Park are a match
for Plymouth's Joe Porcari this fall.
The Plymouth senior added another chapter to his stellar final
high school season Tuesday by leading the Wildcats to a 21-38 victory
over Canton in a KLAA South Division showdown on a perfect day for
running.
Porcari covered the 5K course in 16:43, 13 seconds ahead of
teammate Derek Gielarowski and 39 seconds ahead of Canton's top
finisher Mitch Clinton, who posted a solid time of 17:22.
Wildcats Brandon Dalton (17:31), Jimmy Maciag (17:36) and Liam
Cardenas (17:39) finished fifth through seventh, respectively.
Also scoring for Canton were Miles Felton (third in 17:29),
Bradon Conley (eighth in 17:45), Keegan Sullivan (11th in 18:00) and
Tom Walkinshaw (12th in 18:15).
"Joe and Derek got out from the start and didn't look back,"
said Plymouth coach Jon Mikosz. "They are both looking impressive right
now.
"Brandon, Jimmy and Liam ran great as a pack. Brandon had a
great kick at the end and almost got Miles at the line. Justin Heck is
starting to run consistently well and Nick Eiben is right up with him.
"I am extremely proud of this team and the way they have been
stepping it up when ask them to."
