Led by Brianna "One Shoe" Lax, Plymouth's girls cross country
team turned in a strong seventh-place performance at Saturday's Monroe
Jefferson Invitational.
The Wildcats were paced by freshman Lax, who was clocked in a
sizzling time of 19:46 -- which was good enough for eighth place --
despite losing one of her shoes half-way through the race.
Lax's effort earned her a spot on the Wildcats' all-time top-10
leaderboard.
"At the 1.5-mile mark, someone stepped on the back of one of
Brianna's shoes and it came off," recounted Plymouth coach Mary Kerwin.
"She kept running and posted a personal record time. I told her that
maybe she should do that in all her races."
Nicole Traitses also defied the day's tough conditions, posting
a time of 19:59, which was good enough for 12th place.
Also running well for the 'Cats were Sophie Roberts (34th in
21:08), Julie Hahn (46th in 22:02), Elyse Gryniewicz (50th in 22:20),
Jessica Scarpello (57th in 22:41) and Dana Rebar (59th in 22:48).
