Plymouth's
hockey team had the "Wright" stuff Saturday night against state-ranked
East Kentwood.
Led by the three-point effort of Colin Wright, the Wildcats
opened their 2009-10 campaign with a 6-4 victory over the Falcons in
Grand Rapids.
Wright scored a pair of goals and assisted the second of Ryan
Bauer's two net-finders.
"We played very well tonight," said Plymouth coach Paul
Fassbender. "We had strong puck movement. Colin Wright played an
explosive game using his speed to generate multiple scoring
opportunities."
Michael Justus was strong between the pipes for the winners,
stopping 24 shots. The Wildcats rifled 24 shots at the East Kentwood
net-minder.
The game's lone first-period goal came off the stick of Wright,
who was assisted by Ryan Renault.
Plymouth led 4-3 after two periods thanks to a single goal from
Zach Gambrell (from Ryan Brown) and a pair from Bauer, whose first
lamp-lighter was assisted by Renault and Pat Smiatacz; Wright picked up
a helper on the Bauer's second goal.
The Wildcats held on in the third thanks to goals from Wright
(from Kevin Matusiak) and Renault (unassisted).
The Wildcats' home-opener is Tuesday at 6:40 p.m. against Monroe
at Compuware Arena.
