Caging the Cougars

Salem netters shine in three-game sweep

Oct. 9, 2009, 5:10 p.m.

Salem's successful effort against South Lyon East Thursday night was the epitome of a "team" victory.

All 11 Rocks played a role in the three-game sweep of the Cougars: 25-11, 25-20 and 25-17.

"Overall, it was a great night," said Salem coach Amanda Suder. "I got to mix up the line-up a lot and have Kerry (MacDonald) hitting and Mary (Ganich) setting. It was nice that everyone got to play."

Ganich had a big night setting, racking up 12 assists and five digs. MacDonald sparkled at the service line, earning 25 points and four aces.

Also excelling for the winners were Nicole Merget (11 kills), Jillian Sommerville (10 kills) and Lauren Aschermann, who had 15 digs.
