Getting defensive

Stevenson hangs tough 1-0 loss on Rocks

Oct. 8, 2009, 1:15 a.m.

For the first time all season, the fate of Salem's soccer team will not be in its own hands...or feet.

As a result of Tuesday's 1-0 setback to Livonia Stevenson, the Rocks fell into second place in the KLAA Central Division behind Northville.

The Mustangs have 20 points heading into tonight's regular-season finale against the Spartans while the Rocks have 19 going into tonight's match against Novi.

Tuesday's loss left Salem with a 10-4-3 overall mark and 6-2-1 record in the Central. Stevenson improved to 4-6-3 and 3-4-2, respectively.

Tuesday's lone goal was tallied by Stevenson's Marco Bernardini, who headed a crossing pass into the net 12 minutes into the contest.

Salem senior net-minder Sasa Miskovic made six saves.
