Plymouth's girls golf team turned in its best finish ever in a Division 1 Regional when the Wildacts placed fifth Thursday at Giant Oak Golf Course.

Freshman Kelsey Murphy was the overall medalist, shooting a five-over 77 on the challenging layout. Murphy had to defeat another golfer in a playoff hole to earn medalist honors.

Murphy earned a berth in next week's Division 1 state finals tournament at Forest Akers West Golf Course in East Lansing. The first round will be played Oct. 16 with the final round set for the following day.

Fellow freshman Sarah Thompson also excelled, shooting a careeer-best 86. Thompson missed qualifying for the state meet by just two shots.

LeAnn O'Shaunessy, a senior, fired a career-best 107. Also scoring for the Wildcats were Freshman Mandy Kirsch (109) and junior Chloe Marentic (110).

Saline, Bedford and Ann Arbor Pioneer placed 1-2-3 to qualify for the state meet in the team competition.
